Beth Moore – Ready for Launch!

rocketBeth Moore has a new course plotted and is preparing to head out!  Sadly, it’s a predictable and tragic destination that she’s chosen.  Regular readers will know that it has long been my view that Beth Moore has two dangerous positions in her theology.  First, she feels comfortable with having conversations with God, whether it be hearing an audible voice or internal leading, and then preaching from the message she’s just received.  Why is this bad?  Because when any message is preached from a pulpit as “thus saith the Lord” it automatically elevates that message to be on equal footing and authority with the written Word.  I’ve had many disagree with me on this but it’s simply the truth.  The other dangerous position Ms. Moore holds is that she sees no difference in the positions of various religions and denominations.  She has more than once referred to Roman Catholics as brothers and sisters in Christ not recognizing that they adhere to a completely different religion based on a “salvation” alien to Scripture.  Alien enough to spark off the protestant reformation, a movement in which men & women of God were tortured and killed by the Roman Catholic church and even caused the Roman Catholics to entrench in heresy further by convening the Council of Trent where it was declared that any  one who believes in salvation through Christ alone is to be eternally damned.  Nice.

These two errors, the treating of her direct revelations as being authoritative and her embrace of foreign religions have now combined.  Beth is making it known that over the next year or so she will be heading in a new direction – the merging of religions.  She will be calling for unity, encouraging people to look past the differences and instead search for common ground so as to begin worshiping together.  And, here’s the alarming part, she is saying that God Himself is directing her in this through visions and direct conversations with Him.

So at this point we must stop and think – if Beth is truly hearing from someone and receiving visions, yet those visions and messages are in contradiction to Scripture, who is it she’s been talking to and getting visions from?  God doesn’t contradict His written Word, so…who is it?  I know it’s harsh to word it this way, but I know of no other way to word it.  Scripture teaches us to oppose, correct and even reprove false teaching, and unity with Roman Catholics who deny salvation is through Christ alone is as false a religion as they come.  Yet Beth Moore is preparing to launch a new campaign of unity based on direct revelations from “god”.  Again, unity (while sounding reasonable and even desirable to many modern ears) is the exact opposite of what we are told to do in Scripture:

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.  For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.  As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.  –   2 Timothy 4:1-5

Did you catch that?  We aren’t supposed to embrace those with false teachings, we are to “rebuke and reprove”.  Why?  Because those who twist the Word are doing the exact same work we first saw in the garden.  It leads to error, sin and damnation.  This call – the call for unity with those who openly twist the Word of God and lie to their followers is from the same source as that garden as well.  It’s an argument that sounds appealing and reasonable to the ears of men and women but is in direct rebellion to the sure Word of God.

Beth is heading out on the same road as prosperity preacher Kenneth Copeland, Pope Francis, Billy Graham and Rick Warren who told USA today that he doesn’t try to change Roman Catholics, Jews & other groups as the differences are “non-essential” (USA Today 7/21/13).  It seems as though a massive call to set aside divisive beliefs for the sake of unity is about to kick-off, and Beth Moore wants to be in the front.

What about you?  Will you bristle at this new direction and remain true to God or will you, for the sake of unity with friends, family and church, go along with those who continue to push her teachings (quite possibly your local church and denomination).  At what point will you say “enough”?  At what point will the SBC say “enough” and pull her teachings from the shelves of Lifeway book stores as the revelations she is preaching are from a highly questionable source (and that’s putting it mildly)?  Where is our affection and loyalty, with God and His Word or with Beth and these other popular teachers?  I guess we’ll see…

One final thought:

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.  For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness?  Or what fellowship has light with darkness?   What accord has Christ with Belial?  Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?  What agreement has the temple of God with idols?  For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,
“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God,and they shall be my people.  Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you,and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”  –  2 Corinthians 6:14-17
