Ducks at Mardel & other Dangerous Places

Ducks at MardelsNo, this isn’t some photographic trickery done using a Photoshop program.  This really is a “Duck Dynasty” display at our local “Christian” bookstore (Mardels to be exact).  This will be a short post, and it’s on a subject that comes up a lot here at ChurchSalt.  If you are embracing the popular figures in our worldly culture with the impression that you are somehow promoting Jesus Christ and His atoning death on the Cross, you are in a really, really dangerous place.  Why would I say such a thing?  Well, because the Bible makes it extremely clear:

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  -1 John 2:15

If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  – John 15:19

Why do so many professing Christians desperately desire to be seen as having so much in common with the world?  Why do they think that the world that hated the most righteous man who ever lived will fall in love with them?  They have this burning desire to come alongside the world’s styles, entertainment, and lifestyles.  But instead of proclaiming sin and the Cross when they get there, they declare to them “I’m just like you but happier!”  Do they not realizing that in their proclamation “I’m just like you” that they are giving proof positive that they aren’t even saved?  For if there has been no change, there has been no salvation!  Do they not realize that even in coming alongside the world that they make themselves an enemy (yes, I said enemy) of God?  I know we have all read this passage before, but this time slow down, read it carefully, and think about what it is really saying:

Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.  – James 4:4

Folks, A busy store like Mardel would be a very dangerous place for a duck to be walking around.  But if you’re walking out of Mardel carrying these kinds of duck’s, you might be in a far more dangerous place!  Consider your sins, recognize them for what they are (rebellion against our Creator), and cling to Christ’s work on the Cross as your only hope of salvation. And then don’t go back into the world and try to imitate it (if you are truly saved you won’t want to anyway, read Jeremiah 31:31-34) but instead come out of the world and follow your new Master the Lord Jesus Christ obeying Him in all He tells you through His Word.
