Patience or Permission?

Do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?               Romans 2:4

Take some time to think about this small passage.  Go to Romans and read it in context.  Most people would never admit to continuing in sin because they believe the Lord has granted them a unique permission, but for a person who professes to be a Christian and continues in behavior they know to be sinful, isn’t that really what they have done?  Haven’t they convinced themselves that God is okay with letting them continue in “little” sins with no retribution?  The Bible clearly defines sin in several places (Exodus 20, 1 Corinthians 6:9, 1 Timothy 1:10 and more) and has just as clearly defined what happens to those who do sin (Rom 6:23).  We have all sinned, but those who are truly saved will strive to avoid sin, knowing the pain and separation from our Lord that it brings.  But if you are at a place where deep inside (perhaps denying it even to yourself) you think God has granted you permission to continue in sin, know this – He hasn’t!  He is calling to you even now to repent of all sin and trust in the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross to pay the penalty for your crimes.  Think about it!
