William Gurnall on Scripture vs. man’s reason:
“Who but God could tell us who and what His nature is? Natural reason has found that there is a God, and His power is taught in the school of nature. But how do uneducated men learn the true knowledge of God when, profound philosophers continually grope like dunces after endless theories but never find the door? The apostle answers: “The world by wisdom knew not God” (1 Corinthians 1:21).
God Himself must reveal the trinity of persons in the Godhead, for the heart of man can never aim high enough to find such truth. And the same can be said of all the Gospel – Jesus Christ, God-man, justification by faith in His blood, and the whole method of grace and salvation through Him. These truths could never enter into the heart of the wisest man in the world, yet a little child, under the preaching of the Gospel, believes these mysteries which even Plato and Aristotle overlooked.”
