Image of Tebow found…in Tortilla!!

The old saying is being proven true once again – God works in mysterious ways.  A ChurchSalt investigative reporter has learned that the image of Tim Tebow has been spotted in a small East-Texas town, and in a tortilla of all places!  Mr. S of Longview, TX (who wishes to remain anonymous) spotted the image while preparing his family’s Friday night meal. “When I first saw it, I thought maybe my mind was playing tricks on me, ” Mr. S related, “but my wife quickly came over when she heard my excited outburst and verified my find.  Tebow is in my tortilla!!”  Despite efforts to keep the find a secret, faithful evangelical football fans have heard about the tortilla, and hundreds of them have flocked to the site in an effort to see the blessed image.  “We let them in the house…only a few at a time, of course” Mr. S said smiling, “we can’t keep the message of God to ourselves.  It just isn’t right.”

Of course, like all miracles, there are doubters.  Some seem to feel that God doesn’t use miracles to bring attention to men, but that instead He focuses all attention on His son, Jesus Christ.  “This tortilla madness just takes the glory of what Jesus did on the Cross, and gives it to somebody else!” a local doubter and reformed pastor explained, “The Bible makes it clear that we are to make much of Christ, not to make much of people who make much of Christ.”  To the pastor’s credit, the biblical message of forgiveness of sin through Christ’s work on the Cross is absent from all the Tebow and Tebow-tortilla mania.  But most evangelicals who have flocked to the site don’t seem to care.  The general opinion of the Tebow faithful at the tortilla site is that the true Gospel message has been missing from the vast majority of American preaching for years, and to bring it back now simply takes away from the fun and excitement.  “The Biblical Gospel is outdated, and quite difficult to discuss with others,” one Texas woman related while in line to see the sacred  flour-wrap,”but it’s easy and fun talk to about Tebow, the tortilla and the miraculous ways God has helped me to find my purpose!! Sin and atonement and all that?  What does that have to do with America and football?”

So does the tortilla truly bear the image of the blessed quarterback?  If so, what does it mean?  For legal reasons we aren’t allowed to photograph the actual tortilla itself (although the photo accompanying this story is out of the same package).  But Mr. S has decided to allow more people access to view the tortilla, and for a mere $15 per-person. “I’m really not making money off of this,” Mr. S replied when questioned by critics, “but foot traffic does put some wear and tear on my house.  I am simply bringing God’s message of unity and acceptance while trying to keep the house in one piece.”

It is this reporter’s opinion that there might be some legitimacy to this amazing find.  As I finish typing this, word was just released that Tebow’s image has also been found in a pancake in Indianapolis, the site of this year’s Superbowl.  Is this God’s way of telling us who this year’s winner will be?  Stay tuned for more evangelical football updates…

“I’m not impressed with anyone who calls themself a Christian, yet plays a sport that focuses on hurting one another, sharing the same field with scantily clad cheerleaders and being paid millions to play a game. It’s just not Christ like on so many levels.”

So I guess it is salvation by grace for everyone except Tim Tebow. Can we now put all Christian athletes in the un-Christ-like circle based on how you feel about it, and you perception of the sport? Have you heard Tebow’s testimony, and his mother’s testimony? Probably millions of people this year as a result of Tebow playing football and having a public witness are asking, what is this Jesus thing all about? Paul said it didn’t matter to him whether Christ was preached out spite for the situation he was in or out of truth. He rejoiced that Christ was being preached.

And ChurchSalt guy. You make up something fictional to satirize a fellow Christian? Shame on you. Please repent and ask God for forgiveness.

I believe you both are saved and are born again Christians. But I have to say, you are talking like lost men who hate Christians. Just my opinion.

“I thought a fictional satire might cause some to pause and reflect on some of the ridiculous aspects of what is going on.” Really? What do see going on ChurchSalt guy? What is ridiculous about a Christian living his faith in the public eye?

Kinda like the “Christian” wrestler? “Christian” stripper? Etc…What do you say about that? Can a Christian wrestle? Hang around with the Undertaker, those slutty women and focus on hurting each other as well? It all boils down to honouring God with our lifestyle, words, actions…Do you know what these football players do for their bonding days? Take a guess. We are to avoid the very appearance of evil and live our lives to God’s glory, sorry football, wrestling and other professions that focus on hurting people, being paid millions for playing a game, hanging around cheerleaders, strippers and evil, ungodly people is just not what I call, and I believe scripture calls Christ-like. Argue as you wish, I know my convictions anger and frustrate a lot of people, that’s okay. You enjoy your carnal living, and I will enjoy living for Christ…k?

I will say I highly doubt Tim Tebow is involved in any of the off-field debauchery. He does seem to take his faith seriously, and having heard one of his sermons/talks, he seems to be legit. But there are still a lot of issues with being associated to the sensuality and “party like” spirit of the sport. The argument that always makes me laugh is the “but it gets the message out” argument, as though if Christians don’t engage in business with sensual and worldly events, that somehow our Lord will be thwarted and unable to find another way to get the message out. The “do whatever works” theme of modern evangelicals seems to be at odds with the “be in the world but not of the world” message I see in Scripture. It will be interesting to see how Tebow’s walk develops as he gets older (he is still fairly young) and more experienced and mature. I would love to see him get even bolder in his preaching and more effective in taking the attention off of him and putting it on Christ. Time will tell…

Yeah kinda like Bono’s testimony as well, huh? How much does Tebow have to compromise in order to be a good team mate? Did you hear about Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins not going to the White House to see the president? He didn’t agree with Obama’s politics being a republican. Now the storm of controversy that created was amazing. his dedication to his team was questioned and he was criticized for not being a “team player”. I know for a fact that many of these teams go to strip clubs, movie theatres, and share hot tubs with (ahem) admiring fans…I would like to know just how submitted Tebow is to Christ and how submitted he is to his coach and team. Will be interesting to see…

Alan, you are criticizing someone because of “their perception of the sport”? The cheerleaders are intentionally dressed to provoke lust, and professionally trained to dance in enticing and sexual ways!! My goodness, how else is someone supposed to perceive them?!??
As far as your rebuke, I am not at all upset when the gospel is preached (by Tebow or by anybody else), nor is this post ridiculing Tim Tebow. You missed the entire point of the satire. All the hype (although over for this season) has been about Tebow himself. In all the discussions, articles and talk shows neither law nor gospel are being discussed. The spotlight is on Tebow’s desire to put the spotlight on Jesus, it is not on Jesus Himself. This post was simply an attempt to move the focus off of Tebow, and back to where it belongs (on Christ and His atoning work). I highly doubt Tim Tebow would be upset about this, as he often states that he also wants the focus to be Christ, not himself. Thanks for stopping by and leaving yet another negative and accusatory comment. They are always appreciated.

No, not really. Being the Northern snow-buried man that you are, you might not be familiar with the evangelical Tim Tebow mania that has gripped this country. Thousands upon thousands who would never dare share the biblical gospel with a co-worker are now die-hard Denver Bronco fans. I thought a fictional satire might cause some to pause and reflect on some of the ridiculous aspects of what is going on.

Just bugging you ol boy! I’ve heard all about the guy, and frankly I’m not impressed with anyone who calls themself a Christian, yet plays a sport that focuses on hurting one another, sharing the same field with scantily clad cheerleaders and being paid millions to play a game. It’s just not Christ like on so many levels.

Up here of course, we spend our time curling with frozen haggis, having icicle throwing contests and digging out of our twenty foot snow drifts.

It’s hard to wear kilts in this weather, but it beats wearing heavy jeans and spurs….hehe. Let me know how things are going in your neck of the woods.

        Love ya bro.
